“Should”, “If only…”, “Maybe sometime…” “When x, then y”. These are all examples of mental roadblocks discretely weakening the spirit and personal best of countless singles. While the word or phrase may vary, the result is often the same - inhibited growth.

What we think, ultimately guides our emotions and our decisions. The problem is that many people are unaware of the quiet messages that reinforce inner fears and self-doubt. Is it important to know the source? Where did they actually take their roots? I am a big believer in focusing on the solution rather than the problem although awareness and insight might be an important place to start.

Make a list of your “un” vocabulary. You know the words, the phrases, and the statements standing in the way of your solo potential.

Your Daily Self-Care Moment
Creating a new path in the woods is frowned upon, but in single life its the preferred way to go. Make today the day that you decide that your uniqueness as an individual requires that you be you. You may look similar or even talk similar to someone else, yet you are still on your own course. Thank others who may guide you.  Forgive those who may attempt to hinder you.  You are continuing down the path you choose.  A path that, despite the ups and downs, will be defined as your path.

Singles should remember that your path will encounter a variety of terrains and that at times you may feel alone and other times others will be alongside you.  Singles will go up mountains, down mountains and moments when there appears to be no mountains in sight.  On your path you may feel strong and have a phase when you are weakened by experiences or challenges. Know yourself and when to reduce the speed and when to pick up the pace.  No matter what happens, singles will always come back to the realization that “this is my chosen path”.

Your Daily Self-Care Moment

Your self-care goal for today is to have absolutely no regard for what others think of you.  What matters most is that you are happy within your own being.  Act as though you had never learned to consider the opinions of others as having any consequence in your life.  Instead, be guided by your own inner voice, the melody of your own solitary song.

If you are accustomed to having the advice and input of those around you, for today allow yourself to be your own guiding force.  Developing a healthy sense of single self means learning to place great value on your own ability to choose for yourself and to not doubt what means most to you.
